A unique spring event will be held at Red Bird Brewing on May 6, to help raise money for children who escaped the war in Ukraine and are embracing a new life in Kelowna.

Hearts and Hands 4 Ukraine will be about friendship, cultural sharing, awareness, and understanding.

From 5 until 8 p.m., there will be live entertainment, Ukrainian music and dancing, and traditional food for sale.

Organizing committee chair Tod Alstad said the proceeds from the event will go towards, “Supporting children to find inner strength and friends through sporting activities giving confidence and a sense of belonging.”

Hearts and Hands 4 Ukraine is joining the YMCA of Southern Interior BC to provide for program fees at the YMCA.

“These young people have been through a lot, it is important for children to get involved in sporting activities and to feel welcomed by the Kelowna community. It will give the children purpose, friends, and most importantly it will help to heal from the trauma suffered as a result of the war in Ukraine,” said Alstad.

More than 200 people are expected to attend the event.

Donations of $30 provide a $21 tax receipt and a beverage. Donations can be made at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/YMCA-SIBC/events/hh4u-2024/.
